Anonymous usage analysis with Matomo Analytics

We use Matomo Analytics to evaluate the usage behaviour of our website. We do not collect any personal information. IP addresses are anonymised. It is not possible for us to trace individual users.

Matomo is an open source web analytics platform. A web analytics platform is used by a website owner to measure, collect, analyse and report visitor data in order to understand and optimise their website.

Matomo is used to analyse the behaviour of website visitors to identify potential pitfalls: pages not found, problems with search engine indexing, which content is most appreciated… Once the data is processed (number of visitors reaching a page not found, only viewing one page…), Matomo generates reports for website owners to take action, e.g. change the layout of the pages, publish new content… etc.

Matomo processes the following data:

  • anonymised IP address
  • Custom dimensions
  • Custom variables
  • Job-ID
  • Date and time
  • Title of accessed page
  • URL of accessed page
  • URL of the page that was accessed before the current page
  • Screen resolution
  • Time in the local time zone
  • Files that have been clicked and downloaded
  • Clicks on links to an external domain
  • Time of page generation
  • Country, region, city
  • Main language of the browser
  • User agent of the browser

The processing of personal data with Matomo is based on legitimate interests.

Processing your personal information, such as cookies, helps us to understand what works and what does not work on our website. For example, we can see if the way we communicate is engaging or not and how we can improve the structure of the site. Our team benefits from the processing of your personal data and works directly on the website. By processing your personal data, you can benefit from an increasingly better website.

Without the data, we would not be able to provide you with the service we currently offer. Your data is only used to improve the user experience on our website and to help you find the information you are looking for.

As Matomo is installed directly on our server, no data is exchanged with Matomo or any third party. More information can be found here: https://matomo.org/100-data-ownership/
